Resort Aims to Support Local Community with More Relevant Communications

GOLDEN, COLO., Dec. 16, 2020—Data Driven Marketing Platform developer Ascent360 today announced Mt. Ashland Ski Area as its latest customer signing. As a not-for-profit ski area, strong community ties are important to Mt. Ashland Ski Area, and it plans to use Ascent360 to engage more authentically with local skiers and snowboarders.

Owned and operated by the nonprofit Mt. Ashland Association, Mt. Ashland Ski Area strives to provide a highly inclusive and sustainable resort for winter adventurers from southern Oregon and northern California. Starting from a lift powered by a station wagon at its opening in 1964, Mt. Ashland Ski Area now has four lifts leading to a mix of terrain that skews more advanced. Given the challenging terrain, the resort goes out of its way to help new skiers and boarders develop their skills through affordable learn-to-ski programs. And it has backed up its commitment to resource conservation by becoming the first STOKE Certified ski area in the U.S.

Heading in to the 2020/2021 ski season, Michael Stringer, Director of Marketing & Development, was concerned about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on resort accessibility and use. “We knew communication with pass holders and everyone else who uses Mt. Ashland would be key to getting people out and feeling safe on the mountain this winter,” said Stringer. “The problem is that we didn’t have a way to provide helpful communications to skiers and snowboarders based on their ability levels and interests. Under the circumstances, we felt it was the perfect time to pivot to a new communication platform and strategy.”

After hearing about Ascent360 on a National Ski Areas Association webinar, Stringer took a closer look at the platform capabilities and liked what he saw. “Cold times need ‘HOT’ [ honest, open, timely] communications and I loved the idea of being able to send tailored messages to everyone in our database,” he explained. Now Mt. Ashland can send succinct, relevant communications based on peoples’ express interests, including things like lessons, gear and one-day visits.

“The communication challenges for this ski season are unprecedented,” said Scott Buelter, CEO at Ascent360. “With the help of our platform and campaigns, Mt. Ashland Ski Area can now cost-effectively send right-time targeted messages to skiers or snowboarders of any level. That should make for even more fun and a healthier community spirit going forward.”
